Harley wheel maker cutting jobs

The Harley Davidson wheel maker New Castalloy is cutting production and shedding 25 jobs because of the global economic downturn.

The company, with premises at North Plympton in Adelaide, will cut wheel production by 100 per day, to 1,200.

Peter Lamps from the Australian Workers Union says voluntary redundancies will be offered.

"This will affect 25 workers across the board from blue collar to salaried employees and the occupations are quite broad across the spectrum," he said.

"From what the company has indicated to the union they believe that this latest necessity for redundancies should stand them in pretty good stead going forward."
